ANIMAL TESTING: 8 things you can do today

  1. Stop buying battery eggs
Find an alternative now – there is at least 1 option for your area & if you can’t find one let us help you! Buy eggs that are certified free range from companies that DON’T produce other battery eggs.

Many egg production companies charge excessive prices for free range eggs to guide you away from purchasing them in favour of mass produced, hormone filled, negative energy eggs which are cheaper.

We have found suppliers in several areas who charge LESS for free range eggs than the local woolworths & coles charge for evil eggs! Visit your local fruit shops as often vegetable farmers will sell eggs from their farms as an additional product … small quantities, high on quality! Seek out alternatives & stock up for a few weeks at a time.

  2. Eat less meat
You don’t have to become vegetarian to help reduce a problem – a start is a step. If everyone halved their meat intake we could significantly reduce greenhouse gas produced in every area of mass animal production.

Animals themselves fart lots – especially cows, big powered factories are used to kill them, rotting remains are disposed of poorly, then they’re processed & packaged in styrofoam & plastic adding to landfill.

42 Million cows are consumed in the USA every year … over 600 Thousand animals are slaughtered in the UK every year … 500 Million animals live on production farms in Australia. Random statistics, but they’re pretty big numbers huh?

Do we really need to produce & consume so much? Try halving your meat consumption or going completely vego for a whole month! There's recipe's in the forum >

  3. Learn to read labels
Newsflash! Labels lie! Some labels say ‘not tested on animals’ but they really mean ‘the final product is not tested on animals but the bits that make it were’. That’s not really truthful now, is it?

How do you decide what labels to believe and which to ignore? The answer is preparation – be prepared before you leave home. Know which products you are looking for and which to avoid in advance.  You could be further organised by purchasing beauty items online from stores like The Body Shop, The Cruelty Free Shop, Lush and many others as listed in THE LIST.

  4. Be grateful
Many people couldn’t imagine never eating meat again, and we respect your choices, but there’s a simple way you can express thanks before consuming anything from the earth.

Before each meal, say a simple ‘grace’ … you can say it to yourself or share it with others … it doesn’t have to be religious or theatrical … its simply the act of saying thank you.

When my sister was barely able to talk we made a simple version for her – “Thank you for our food, Amen”. We can all learn to be more grateful for the things we ‘take’ from the earth by being aware of the value of what we are consuming.

  5. Read lots
All the positive healers tell us that awareness is the first step to change, and we know that learning is the step before awareness. In researching this site, we’ve read, watched & listened to some awful acts, but it has only strengthened our resolve to continue to learn more about alternatives and a cruelty free lifestyle.

There are books in libraries, websites on google & articles in the media … read what you can & share your knowledge with others – especially us!

  6. Try beans for your health
If you said ‘oh yuck’, you are going to struggle with this one, but there’s plenty of ways to make a start! Have you tried spicy bean dip? Yum! Did you know you can barely taste refried beans in mexican dishes?

I started adjusting my diet a few years ago for health reasons – I added beans and halved my meat intake, instantly noticing a difference in my energy levels and in … ahem … movements. Beans of all kinds have been known to help reduce stomach & bowell cancers – they act like nature’s street sweeper for your intestines!

Rotting meat left behind can lead to cell damage creating health issues like ulcer, cancers & food intolerances. Red meat can take up to 3 weeks to digest, which means that delicious rump you ate last weekend is now fermenting inside your stomach, creating an acidic environment & encouraging the death of your cells.

Beans help drag bad & sticky food through your system, keeping you clean & regular. Add some beans & take out some meat … your stomach will thank you for it!

  7. Vegetables aren’t boring
If you’ve grown up on meat & potatoes, you probably don’t even know some of the exotic vegetables that are out there – stop turning your nose up! Most supermarkets sell the basics like potato, carrot, beans, snowpeas, cabbage, lettuce, tomatoes, onions … but the variety & quality is less than award winning. Visit your local fruit market – preferably the busiest one with the bulk bags of fruit with spots on them, discount bins & a shelf with organic free range eggs.

Only purchase enough greens for a few days, but stock up on longer lasting vegetables like potato, onions, sweet potato & garlic. Zucchini makes a great addition to many recipe’s either grated or sliced. Fennel bulb’s are fabulous roasted with a selection of other vegetables like beetroot, turnips, parsnips, squash, mushrooms, capsicum, onion, garlic … Yum!

Frozen vegetables are ok sometimes, but they aren’t the same as fresh vegetables no matter how many studies say they are, so buy fresh & get the maximum benefit of vitamins & minerals.

How do I know how to cook a specific vegetable & where can I get vegetarian recipe ideas? At the forum of course! >

  8. Be a dobber
At my school they said “Dobbers wear nappies”, but the reality was the dobbers got things done by heading straight to the top … now ‘dobbing’ is called ‘being a rat’ and its considered bad to mind someone else’s business. There’s also practical concerns.

Do you work somewhere that employs practices that you disagree with, but you can’t afford to lose your job? Is someone you know involved with an act of animal cruelty but you are scared to confront them about it?

You can send an anonymous email to us with your evidence and we’ll take it from there. We’re not out to close your company down, we want laws to be changed to ensure the fair & humane treatment of all animals but we also accept reasonable solutions that keep people in jobs. Don’t be afraid to speak up. You will help save defenseless animals and maybe even make your work a happier place to be!

Who do I tell if I have information about animal abuse?  You can start with the forum , or the RSPCA.
