Hey everyone, my name is Mike, I'm 23 and from Western Australia. I enjoy cooking (animal free!!), swimming, cycling, going to the gym and I love my music.
I have been involved in animal rights for about 4 years now. I pretty much work on animal rights isuues by myself and liaise with PETA Asia-Pacific for assistance when I get stuck. I also do some voluntary work for some animal rights groups.
At the moment I have 2 campaigns that I'm working on and I'm having some success. I also assist a US organisation with distributing Vegan Starter Packs around Oz.
If anyone wants to get more involved in AR or would like to chat... please leave me a msg... I always like meeting new vegetarians or vegans
Cheers,
Mike |

Hi Mike,
I've just visited the AFA website which I found in one of your posts. I note there is some GREAT veg starter kits around the USA. I've been giving out PETA and Vegan Outreach ones (I love the VO ones!)
As yet, I hope to find someone doing a good one in Australia. Do you know of? I know Animal Liberation Qld did a copy of Vegan Outreach's 'Why Vegan' and changed the title to 'GO VEGAN!' which I don't like (too pushy) and I found harder to give out. I don't know why they changed that perfectly good title
I hired a stand at the Adelaide Animal Expo last March long weekend and gave out Meet Your Meat and VO literature (cost me a fortune!) and I played PETA's Go Veg video ... was GREAT ... I thought the expo would tell me to stop playing it. But I played it for three full days.
I distributed over 1,000 VO leaflets and I am sure I converted at least 5 people per day to going veg (maybe more thought hard about it and may have) but I KNOW about 15 did. ie the ones that cried, thanked me with their hands on their heart, asked to buy my veg cook books or gave me generous donations whith tears in their eyes ... that video is excellent!
I'm doing it again next March it was so good, but I'd really like some good veg literature. I hate all cruelty to animals, but I want to focus on showing the video and giving out vegetarian AND vegan literature. I think this is the single best way to reduce the mass suffering. People who stop eating animals save the most and they will then be open to all the other cruel issues. The eating is the hardest to break through as its so ingrained and EVERYWHERE around us.
Oh and my literature has to be funky ... I don't want to give out grungy looking stuff ... that is why I paid for the VO and PETA stuff ... though PETA are very good to me know and send me whatever I want. Unfortunately their Aussie Veg Starter kit won't be here by next March
