YOUR SAY : why go nude?

Animal Cruelty is a controversial subject. No really! We know areas of this site will generate different feelings for different people. While Animals rely on us to speak on their behalf, humans possess the abilty ... and the right ... to speak ... or write! Tell us how you feel, what makes you mad and how you deal with it! Our first letter is from John ...

Imogen,

If you please would, could you please tell me why you, like so many other women who belong to PETA (at least from what I have observed, feel the need to get naked to get the message across that you are trying to get across? I know some guys get naked too for your cause but, in my estimation, many more women do than men, in my opinion. Can't you and the other women who get naked for your cause try to get the message across while wearing clothes? I would greatly appreciate answer to this question from you to me at your earliest convenience. Thank you very much. In the meantime, please take care and I very much look forward to your return response

Dear John,

In a perfect world we would only have to show the shocking images of animals being tortured and killed for the sake of selfish human ONCE and then the abusers would be shamed into stopping, but unfortunately people don't want to see horrific ugly things. If a viewer turns their head away from the message, its simply not going to get through - and the cruelty continues.

So PETA (who I believe are absolute genius' at getting messages out there) pioneered the naked publicity stunt ... they use pretty things to show ugly things and in doing so they make world wide press. They stop traffic, attract attention and they get people talking which is what the animals need. The voiceless animals who are suffering NEED those front pages, they need people talking.

It doesn't matter if you are a fan of the naked ad or not, what matters and I thank you for it, is that you, like so many others have noticed and have spoken about peta and animal rights campaigns. Thank you for being a part of making the animals heard, even if you don't like how we deliver our message!

As far as the debate over men and women and who does more, I believe your observation is correct, however I will say that I believe the balance is somewhat dictated by the media, by what they will and wont run ... its about what sells papers.

I can also tell you that posing naked for a campaign is always a career risk and a personal risk, because not everyone agrees with these ads. Some people will not employ you and some will not be happy with you, but one thing is for sure they will all know about it and more importantly be introduced to the cause.

I confess - and I am sure I am not the only one - who has a little voice of worry about what Mum or Nan will think of my ads. I also know by the strong numbers of not only celebs but people from all walks of life who support peta and pose for their campaigns that the need to help the animals is far greater than any other concern. I am an animal adorer and if I think it will help I will always show some skin to save a skin, for me its as simple as that.

You'll be happy to know that in my next campaign, which comes out first in Germany in December, I feature clothes!

Thank you so much for your question and for your support.

Much love,
Imogen

xx
